Planit continues international expansion with acquisition of Shift Left

Planit, the world-leading provider of quality engineering, quality assurance and application testing services, has increased its footprint in the UK with the acquisition of fellow quality specialists, Shift Left Group. Headquartered in Yorkshire, Shift Left’s mission is to make business and technology better for its clients, by providing the strategies, solutions and advice needed to move quality earlier and throughout lifecycles of change.

Planit enables businesses to deliver better software, with confidence, by providing the skills, smarts, and solutions needed to improve the quality of their software and the way they deliver it. Headquartered in Sydney, Planit is the leading provider of quality engineering solutions, consultancy, services and training, in the Asia Pacific region.

The acquisition of Shift Left sees Planit contend for the second spot amongst specialist quality engineering service providers worldwide and grows the group’s rapidly expanding UK-based headcount beyond 300. With the backing of its parent company, Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed economic research firm, system integrator and consultancy, NRI, Planit has its sights firmly set on achieving the top spot in its industry before the completion of its Vision 2030 strategy.

Mike Weale, CEO of Planit, said the acquisition of Shift Left is a progressive and forward-thinking development that will enable opportunity and success for technology partners and industry professionals.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shift Left to the Planit group and take our enhanced combined serviced offering, to the United Kingdom and European technology landscape.” Mr. Weale said. “Further to this, we can offer our employees increased opportunities across the combined entity, which will also benefit our customers.”

“Through this acquisition, we can leverage Shift Left’s suite of services and strong customer base to expand our offerings throughout the UK and into Europe, which is key to executing our Vision 2030 strategy.”

“Planit and Shift Left share a commitment to quality. This is reflected in our core strengths and corporate values. Together, we will work towards a sustainable and secure future through the seamless connection between people and technology.”

Under the acquisition, Shift Left, will continue to operate under its brand, with its Co-Founders David Rigler and Alan Upton leading Shift Left operations.

According to Managing Director, David Rigler, its partnership with Planit will enable Shift Left to continue its focus on providing a quality service to its customers by leveraging the scale and capability that Planit has within its existing operations.

“We were listening to the needs of our customers, and we could clearly see the opportunity to expand our global reach and extend our service offerings. We also knew that achieving this on our own would be possible, but would take significant time and investment. We needed to find a partner with a substantial global footprint and Planit was the logical choice. Not only did we have a historical relationship, we also knew that they had the capability and capacity to move our business forward,” Mr Rigler said.

“Alan and I look forward to seeing our organisational synergies come to bear, as together we reinforce our core offerings and deliver our clients enhanced strategic thought leadership within the quality engineering space.”

Shift Left joins Planit locally in the UK and globally into the wider business footprint across Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and India. The acquisition figure is confidential.

This forward thinking grass-roots organisation celebrates and inspires girls to consider rewarding and diverse careers in technology.

Based in Adelaide, HerTechPath runs interactive workshops at local schools to provide visible role models that inspire young females to consider a career in technology, cyber security, and STEM. It uses a grassroots approach to address the lack of gender diversity in the technology industry, building a community of enthusiastic, passionate, and generous women in the sector who want to give back and are curious about technology and how this can enhance our future.

“Providing an opportunity and a platform for girls to be educated about the progressive industry of technology, and to inspire their minds to be curious, is the greatest gift that modern society can provide to young women,” said Emma Pilcher, Chief People & Culture Officer at Planit. “HerTechPath is doing this and more, so we need to celebrate that and support this initiative in every way possible. We believe that HerTechPath is a great platform to entice girls to get them interested in technology, which is why we are excited to sponsor it.”

With a global footprint in technology and innovation, Planit is proud to be a strong advocate for women in technology. Discussing her role as a HerTechPath Member, Planit’s Director of Delivery for South Australia, Michelle Green, said, “I am delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile initiative. Their mission to support girls mirrors the underlying goal of Planit to assist women in the traditionally male-dominated area of technology. I look forward to presenting from term two onwards.”

With the ACS Australia’s Digital Pulse 2021 report finding that women only comprise 29% of the technology workforce, increased female participation will be critical to strengthening Australia’s ICT potential in the years ahead.

“HerTechPath is excited to be partnering with Planit to join us as we meet with girls in their classrooms, as well as teachers and parents, to share the diverse careers available in our industry, and inspire girls to pursue careers in tech,” said Laura Mercurio, HerTechPath Committee Member. “Planit’s generous Silver Partner support helps HerTechPath scale for growth to reach 20,000 girls across South Australia in 2022-2024, and enables Planit’s staff, such as Michelle, to volunteer their time at schools as visible role models and reduce the inequity of access to role models across our state. We want every girl to know she has a place in our industry, whether she’s passionate about sport, the environment, animals or helping others, so she can make a real difference.”
